Question 1

Can you issue the pool compliance certificate?

Accepted Answer

No — and it's worth being wary of anyone who says they can as a handyman. The Certificate of Compliance is issued by your local council or a private certifier registered with NSW Fair Trading. What we do is the physical rectification — fencing, gates, hinges, latches, gaps and signage — that gets the barrier up to standard so it passes their inspection.

Question 2

Does adding a fence extension make it compliant?

Accepted Answer

Not on its own. A pool barrier needs to be at least 1.2 metres high, and a boundary fence that forms part of the barrier at least 1.8 metres on the pool side — but simply bolting an extension on to reach the height can create a new issue, like a foothold that breaches the 900mm non-climbable zone or a gap that opens up between the panels. We look at the whole barrier and the zone around it, so an 'extension' that ticks the height box doesn't quietly fail another rule.

Question 3

We just bought a place with a pool — where do we start?

Accepted Answer

Common situation. If the pool came without a valid compliance certificate, the barrier needs to meet the applicable standard before a certifier can sign it off. Send us some photos or have us take a look, and we'll tell you honestly what's actually needed to get it there, then do the works. The certificate itself comes from a certifier or council after they inspect.

Question 4

Do I need a compliant pool to sell or lease?

Accepted Answer

Sale and rental requirements differ. A sale may use a certificate of non-compliance; a rental cannot. Other documentation pathways and exemptions apply. Check the NSW Government guidance and confirm your property's requirements with your conveyancer or council before listing.

Question 5

What usually fails an inspection?

Accepted Answer

A barrier under 1.2 metres (or a boundary fence under 1.8 metres where it forms part of the barrier), gaps over 100mm at the base, gates that don't self-close or self-latch, latches mounted below 1.5 metres, and climbable objects — pots, furniture, trees, the pump housing — sitting inside the 900mm non-climbable zone. Most are quick to fix once they're identified.

Question 6

Do you work in Glenmore Park, or just service it from elsewhere?

Accepted Answer

We're based in Glenmore Park. It's our home suburb, which is why it's the one area where we've written a dedicated page for every service we offer. In practical terms it means short notice is easier here than anywhere else we work, and we can usually swing past to look at a job rather than quoting off photos.

Question 7

What does a job cost in Glenmore Park?

Accepted Answer

The quote depends on the inspection report, agreed repairs, materials and access. Send details and photos of the work, along with any target date. We will confirm what else is needed to prepare a quote; some jobs need a site visit.

Question 8

Our Glenmore Park pool fence was built with the house — is it still compliant?

Accepted Answer

Often not, and it's the most common thing we get called out for here. Barriers installed with the original 1990s and 2000s homes have had twenty-plus years of gate hardware wearing out, boundary fences settling below the required height, and landscaping growing into the non-climbable zone. We do the physical rectification work; the compliance certificate itself is issued by a certifier or Penrith City Council after they inspect.

Question 9

Can you do several jobs around the house in one visit?

Accepted Answer

That's usually the sensible way to do it, and it's most of our Glenmore Park work. Homes across the estate were built in the same period, so they tend to need the same handful of things at once — fence palings, gate hardware, pergola timber, a gutter clear-out and a driveway wash. We scope the lot, price it itemised, and do it in one visit instead of charging you a call-out per item.
